This week’s Twitter poll has come to an end and the results are in. We’re excited to see the amount of votes grow so much from last week, especially on a topic that is so important.
In late December of 2017, Andrew Finch was shot and killed after an instance of swatting gone wrong. Tyler Barriss called 911 and claimed that a man at Finch’s address was holding people hostage.
There is a lot of debate right now about what the police’s reaction should have been to such a situation and whether police acted appropriately or not. Regardless of those discussions, the discussion on Barriss’ actions are pretty black and white. Swatting is wrong. It’s not a prank, it’s not funny. This should have never happened and Andrew Finch should still be alive today.
We asked our Twitter followers what should punishments be for someone in Barriss’ situation. Is he responsible for the death of Andrew Finch? To what degree is he responsible? What should his punishment be?
You responded pretty heavily in favor of maximum penalties for Barriss as 53% said he should have to spend life in jail while another 30% said that his time in jail should be over 10 years.
What do you think should be the consequences of #Swatting? Especially if it ends the way that it did for Andy Finch?
